Glencore Ferroalloys Eastern Limb operations hosted its annual Vendor Open Day, welcoming local businesses and entrepreneurs to explore innovative partnership opportunities with its operations. The event aimed to strengthen community ties and enhance supply chain participation..

Designed to equip businesses with the necessary information to become potential vendors, the event featured engaging presentations from Lion Smelter, Eastern Chrome Mines and Regoapele Capital. Topics included procurement processes, supplier registration, and various training programs available to assist local businesses.

“Today is about establishing a dream—a dream of Steelpoort becoming the next big city where Glencore and the community can collaborate to build a sustainable future, not just for the organization and its employees, but for shared benefits within our local communities. This dream can only become a reality through close relationships and meaningful engagement,” said Stefan de Beer, Acting General Manager for Lion Smelter. “We believe that by collaborating with local businesses, we can enhance our operations and contribute positively to the community.”

Attendees had the opportunity to network with Glencore representatives, discuss potential collaborations, and gain a deeper understanding of Lion Smelter and Eastern Chrome Mines’ procurement needs. Feedback from participants highlighted the value of having such platforms which created an opportunity to engage directly with the mine’s leadership as a means to better understand its processes.
