Zambia aiming to be Africa’s largest copper producer

GOVERNMENT is positive that Zambia will in the next two years be a leading copper producer in Africa following concerted efforts by the mining firms to ramp up production.

Minister of Mines and Mineral Development Christopher Yaluma said increase in production by Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) and its 50 year vision will result in Zambia being the largest copper producer in Africa.

“We want that Konkola Deep mine in Chililabombwe to come on board in order for us to be a number one copper producer in Africa. I want to commend KCM for its efforts to ramp up production to 400,000 tonnes,” he said.
