Wilo reinforces its commitment to Africa’s mining sector

With more than 150 years of engineering expertise, Wilo continues to support mining operations across Africa with a comprehensive portfolio of pumping solutions designed for demanding water management, dewatering and slurry handling applications.

The company’s solutions are used throughout the mining value chain, supporting applications such as raw water supply, process water transfer, mine dewatering, water treatment, borehole abstraction and tailings return. Backed by extensive engineering knowledge and application expertise, Wilo focuses on delivering solutions that are tailored to the specific requirements of each operation.

Wilo’s mining portfolio includes submersible pumps, slurry pumps, end-suction pumps, horizontal split-case pumps, multistage pumps, chemical process pumps, borehole pumps and vertical turbine pumps. Available in a range of material and configuration options, these solutions can be adapted to suit abrasive, corrosive and high-demand operating environments.

Among the company’s established mining offerings is the Wilo-Zetos borehole pump range, widely used for groundwater abstraction and water supply applications. Complementing this are Wilo’s horizontal split-case pumps and a growing range of slurry handling technologies developed for challenging mining conditions.

A key solution within the slurry portfolio is the Wilo-Atmos NHD-S horizontal slurry pump, designed to transport high volumes of abrasive slurry with efficiency and reliability. The pump can be configured with either wear-resistant chrome steel or elastomer-lined components, depending on site conditions, and offers capacities of up to 5,400 m³/h, pressures of up to 16 bar and heads of up to 118 metres.

For more demanding slurry applications, the Wilo-Atmos IHD-S vertical submersible slurry pump combines a compact footprint with robust wear-resistant construction. The range delivers capacities of up to 1,267 m³/h, pressures of up to 7.5 bar and heads of up to 40 metres, making it suitable for a wide variety of mining duties.

Wilo also offers the Wilo-Atmos IHD-S 113 for surface dewatering applications, where the effective handling of aggressive and corrosive fluids is essential. Designed for harsh operating environments, the pump helps maintain operational continuity while reducing maintenance requirements.

In mining operations, equipment reliability remains a critical consideration. Abrasive materials, corrosive fluids, high operating pressures and continuous production schedules place significant demands on pumping equipment. Wilo addresses these challenges through an application-focused approach, ensuring that each solution is configured to meet specific site requirements.

This includes selecting the appropriate materials, sealing systems and drive arrangements for each application. Available configurations include hard-metal and rubber-lined components, various sealing options, and both electric and diesel-driven systems, allowing mining operators to optimise performance and maintenance requirements according to their operational objectives.

Supporting its product offering is Wilo’s extensive service network, which provides commissioning, maintenance, repairs, system consulting, training and genuine spare parts support. With local service operations in more than 60 countries and over 1,200 service technicians worldwide, customers benefit from technical support throughout the lifecycle of their pumping systems.

Across Africa, Wilo serves mining customers through regional operations covering Southern, West and North Africa, combining local market knowledge with the resources of a global manufacturing and engineering network. This enables the company to provide responsive support while drawing on expertise and production capabilities from across its international footprint.

Industry platforms such as Electra Mining Africa continue to provide important opportunities for engagement with mine operators, consulting engineers, EPC contractors and project developers, highlighting the breadth of Wilo’s capabilities across water management, dewatering and slurry handling applications.

As mining operations continue to demand robust, application-driven pumping technologies, Wilo remains focused on delivering reliable solutions that help customers maintain efficient operations across the African mining sector.
