As crowds converge on Electra Mining Africa 2026 to see the best and latest in mining technologies and services, Xylem, a global water technology provider, is attracting strong interest from Electra Mining attendees.
Located in Hall 5, Xylem’s stand is showcasing parts of its portfolio that help mines manage their water, from routine work such as dewatering to advanced digital water management and wastewater treatment.
With a giant version of the Xylem brand’s distinct blue X towering behind them, attendees are getting up close with products such as the impressive Flygt submersible pumps, Godwin dri-prime dewatering pumps, Flygt Pareo smart pump controllers, and a scale model demonstrating the principles and effectiveness of Dissolved Air Flotation treatment.
“Water is inseparable from mining. It can be a hazard to workers and equipment, a crucial part of processing and refinement, underpin risk management for tailings and discharge, and much more. Mines recognize the role water management plays in operational efficiency, safety, compliance, and reliability. That’s what we are showcasing here at Electra Mining, demonstrating Xylem’s global expertise and innovation to help mines and mining service providers do more with their water resources,” says Chetan Mistry, Xylem’s WSS Growth Markets Strategy and Marketing Director.
DAF on display
Taking centre stage at the stand, a working scale version of the compact yet effective dissolved air flotation (DAF) system is a big hit with visitors. DAF is a modern wastewater treatment technology that uses tiny air bubbles to float waste particles toward the top of a water stream, where scrapers remove the particles.
The system’s ability to capture residual flotation reagents, fine ores, suspended solids, oils, metal precipitates, and sludges offers various appealing use cases for mines. Applications can include supporting water recovery from tailings streams, producing water suitable for reuse applications, and improving sludge management processes.
“DAF systems are often valued for their compact and modular design relative to many conventional treatment approaches , enabling mines to do more with limited space to enhance or introduce wastewater treatment for specific focus areas. We commissioned a special scale demo model to demonstrate DAF’s principles in action, and it’s been great to see people react to it and grasp DAF’s effectiveness.”
The dewatering workhorse
Flanking one side of the stand, the bright-orange Godwin dri-prime pump has a large and bold presence. Even on its skid-mount version, it’s unmistakably a serious piece of equipment, and many mining sites rely on these pumps to handle dewatering operations.
Designed for rugged conditions, the Godwin dri-prime close-coupled centrifugal pump has all cast iron construction and stainless steel construction options with a cast steel impeller, capable of handling slurries and liquids with solids up to 3 in (75 mm) in diameter. It is designed to simplify maintenance requirements, and minimise routine adjustments under typical operating conditions because of the continuously operated venturi air ejector and dry-running high-pressure oil bath mechanical seal, with high abrasion-resistant silicon carbide faces.
“The Godwin dri-prime pumps have proven their worth on countless mining sites, which use them for routine dewatering, emergency deployments, and maintenance bypass jobs. They are specifically designed to keep working under harsh conditions, supporting remote monitoring and independent operations. Our customers consider these as pumping workhorses they can deploy at a moment’s notice and receive reliable performance.”
Best of breed submersible pumps
Xylem’s Flygt submersible pumps are prominent at the stand, accompanied by scale cutaway models to reveal their inner workings. Mines across the world rely on this family of pumps to manage treacherous and hard-to-reach pumping jobs, draining sumps and removing water pools from tunnels and around equipment.
Wear-resistant hydraulics and the patented Dura-Spin™ System are designed to improve wear resistance compared with conventional pump designs. The unique closed impeller and the suction cover with Dura-Spin™ grooves work together, sweeping abrasive particles away from the impeller neck. Maintenance is kept simple with easy access to key components and pre-assembled plug-in seals for easy replacement.
“Submersible pumps have to manage incredibly demanding conditions at mines. Xylem develops and improves the Flygt family of submersible pumps based on those experiences, ensuring they can handle the challenging solids and debris commonly encountered in mining applications.. Many models incorporate features such as remote monitoring and operation to support safer and more efficient site management.”
Better and smarter water management
Xylem’s stand at Electra Mining Africa 2026 includes the latest digital water management systems. Visitors experience hands-on demos of integrated systems such as Flygt Pareo smart pump controllers, Xylem Nexicon modular monitoring and control platform designed and pre-configured for bespoke water applications, and the advanced telemetry, cloud-based Xylem Field Smart Technology platform for remote monitoring and control of pumping and drive systems.
Visitors also learn more about Xylem’s many services and advantages, including preventative maintenance, innovations in mixer systems, SCADA integration, rentals, engineering and repairs, and more.
Increasingly, mines are looking beyond individual equipment investments and focusing on integrated water strategies that improve efficiency, support water reuse, strengthen operational resilience, and reduce overall lifecycle costs.
“Mining use cases are very specific and must show value quickly,” says Mistry. “Xylem doesn’t just focus on products. Water management is an end-to-end requirement, from the pumping systems at one end through to treatment and discharge on the other, with digital monitoring, operational intelligence, and cybersecurity-focused system design to shape strategic water decisions. Our priorities are to minimize maintenance, improve safety conditions, and align seamlessly with existing site infrastructure. These principles work well together to offer mines what they need, from specific improvements to total water management.”
