In a constantly evolving mining industry where operational excellence, safety, and cost-efficiency define long-term viability, Westfill Group continues to lead the charge in delivering industry best practice backfill solutions across Africa and Australia, as well as further abroad.
As a conglomerate of highly specialised companies, Westfill Group offers comprehensive, end-to-end services specifically tailored for the mining sector.
Its practical experience across some of the world’s most renowned mine sites is a testament to its reputation and capabilities in contracts, consulting, leadership, product supply, and workforce training.

The Greater Group
Founded by Managing Director Ashley Morcombe, the Westfill Group has steadily positioned itself as a provider of holistic solutions that address existing service gaps in the mining industry. Morcombe captures the ethos of the group clearly:
“By having all the skills our clients require in-house gives us a competitive edge as it means we can ensure quality and delivery where others cannot.”
What began as Westfill Pty Ltd (Westfill) in 2020 — specialising in backfill — has now grown into a full-service underground mining contractor. The company’s niche expertise in a field where few had depth or availability allowed it to step in and deliver solutions. With this model, Westfill quickly garnered the trust of mine owners globally, offering reliability through technical know-how.
Establishing Subsidiary Companies
The Group’s expansive strategy has included the establishment of several subsidiary companies, each fulfilling a critical function within the mining value chain. This strategic structure has not only strengthened Westfill’s position in the Australian market but also propelled its expansion into Africa.
One standout is Minorex, a consulting firm that bridges Australian mining experience with African operational contexts. With geological similarities between the two regions, Minorex has played a key role in fostering meaningful and productive relationships across continents.
Other subsidiaries contributing to the group’s ecosystem include:
- FillCon – an EPC specialing in backfill plants and fixed mine infrastructure;
- Westfill Products & Supply – manufacturers and suppliers of high-quality backfill products;
- Westfill Innovations – engineers safety and productivity-enhancing technologies;
- Mine Talent – a recruitment agency focused on mining and resources; and
- Solved Software – developers of bespoke web applications addressing industry-specific challenges.
Pasteflo – Leading Backfill Technology
A prime example of Westfill’s commitment to innovation is the development of Pasteflo, a backfill web application built by Solved Software. Slated for official launch at IMARC in Sydney this October, Pasteflo is the culmination of two and a half years of dedicated research and development aimed at revolutionising backfill workflows.
Designed for safety, efficiency, operational scalability, and excellence, Pasteflo allows production teams to execute complex engineering tasks without needing highly specialised backfill engineers on-site. This not only reduces costs but also mitigates the impact of talent shortages in the field.
Morcombe is confident in the software’s value:
“Having seen great interest in South Australia during a recent mining conference, we’re confident Pasteflo will deliver a level of practical value not found elsewhere.”
He elaborated on the rollout strategy:
“Our initial roll-out will be on selected mine sites that register their interest, in addition to our testing partners. Continued development will be shaped by early feedback.”
“Later this year, Pasteflo will be available for paid subscription online. For now, it’s being offered on a case-by-case basis—aimed at those with a specific challenge needing a proven solution.”
Westfill Group’s trajectory speaks volumes. From hands-on field experience to software innovation, the company has embedded itself as an indispensable force in the mining landscape.
With the current customer base in Africa and Australia, and growing demand in other international regions, Westfill is not just keeping pace with the mining industry’s demands—it’s setting the standard.
