Strata Worldwide Australia has released a new product offering for underground mining communications: RFI Digital Drift.
The solution results from a recently established distribution agreement with Australian-based RFI Technology Solutions.
RFI’s Digital Drift is a communications network solution for high-speed digital data transfer, telemetry and Voice-over-IP (VoIP) calling in underground environments.
The point-to-multipoint Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) solution is ideal for overcoming the typical constraints of underground connectivity by utilising a simple-to-install coaxial cable to carry both power and high-speed data to locations mine-wide.
Digital Drift can be a stand-alone system, or can be used as an extension of existing fibre networks to reach further into and in multiple directions of the mine.
“Strata is very pleased to finalise this agreement with RFI Technology Solutions, as it supports Strata’s growth in underground communications with the continued approach of bringing novel products to market,” Strata chief executive officer Mike Berube said.
“The outstanding advantage of the Digital Drift system is the power and data being transported in a single cable, which provides a high level of flexibility in the system engineering. Operations can configure and reconfigure the network on the fly, and place Ethernet end-point devices anywhere they are required.”
RFI CEO Scott Magee sees great synergies in partnering with Strata, taking its technology to new markets across the globe.
“The Digital Drift solution perfectly complements StrataConnect’s WIFI, tracking and atmospheric monitoring solutions, so we’re excited to build this new partnership,” Magee said.
