Still today, companies decide to apply the analog installation because everyone knows it will work “without a problem.” At that same time, the growth of Ethernet and wireless protocol is a reality. The growth of new protocols are because of the new generation of engineers and technicians, we see more and more Ethernet and wireless application as the standard request in new projects.

Companies are developing field devices with HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus and other standard protocols, which allow you to have easy access to the configuration. Bluetooth appears in field devices as a solution to improve efficiency of engineers in all segments.
Bluetooth allows easy access using an app on your mobile phone or tablet
Endress+Hauser’s SmartBlue Bluetooth App offers you easy access by simply using an app on your mobile phone or tablet. You are able to do the configuration in the palm of your hand.
Of course, if you have a hazardous zone where you can’t use a standard mobile or tablet, you will need to buy a particular tablet with all requirements necessary to use, but maybe the distance of 25 meters available in all Bluetooth devices will be enough to access the device from outside the hazardous area.
Bluetooth will become common in all future devices because of the easy connection. The Bluetooth Interest Group ( SIG ) announced the next generation of protocol, the Bluetooth 5, where with the extending range would deliver robust, reliable Internet of Things ( IoT ) connections, the range of signal quadruple, doubled speed, increasing the data broadcasting capacity by 800%.
Bluetooth features and advantages
On your mobile phone or tablet go to the App Store, search Endress+Hauser SmartBlue (an Endress+Hauser App). With the SmartBlue App you can have easy access to your device one at a time. If you do not have a device you can use the demo function in the app which simulates the device and give the customer the chance to learn how to set up a device without an actual connection.
On SmartBlue you will see the diagnostics from all the instruments based on the NE 107. This means you can easily understand what’s happening with the device. Another excellent feature is that you will have information about the Tag, health staus and Process Variable of each instrument within range of the App.
How to use SmartBlue
Tap on the demo device, choose the option “go to device menu”, now you can do the device configuration, if you go into diagnostics, you will see a button called “envelope curve.” Once on envelope curve, it’s possible to analyse the process condition, to do the mapping, and if you have a question, you can save the curve as a video or picture and send it to your local technician, at Endress+Hauser, who will support you.
