Kamoa Copper S.A. which operators the Kamoa Copper Mining Complex has announced the completion of explosives training course for its employees to further improve safety in all mining operations.
The two-week certification training was delivered by the Congolese government agency AFRIDEX, Africaine d’Explosifs, responsible for the regulation, production and distribution of explosives in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
According to Pontien Kalala, General Manager of the Kamoa Copper’s Kakula mine, more than a hundred employees, including blasters, miners, foremen, supervisors and team leaders from the Kansoko, Kamoa 1 and Kakula mines, participated in the training.
“At Kamoa Copper, one of the essential pillars of our strategy is to invest in skills development, particularly in the training of our Congolese employees. Training our employees so that they are able to manage operations and protect both community and societal interests; this implies responsible management of operations and compliance with all safety measures.”, said Kalala while highlighting the important role explosives play a crucial role in the mining industry.
On his side, Mr. Crépin Kyona, Technical Director of AFRIDEX, said: “We are pleasantly surprised by the level of knowledge that the learners already have in explosives. Our wish is to see them practice everything they have learned during this training in their daily work, particularly in terms of handling and safety.”
