‘Illegal mining activities increase’

KONKOLA Copper Mine (KCM) says illegal mining activities are on the increase at KCM stock piles due to mushrooming of copper processing plants.
And the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs, Governance, Human Rights and Gender Affairs has called on mining

companies to adhere to regulations in the mining industry.
KCM manager corporate affairs and power Howard Chilundika said illegal mining mostly conducted by youths was on the increase within KCM premises.
Mr Chilundika was speaking on Friday when the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs, Governance, Human Rights and Gender Affairs visited the mining firm in Chingola.
The committee is on the Copperbelt and will proceed to North-Western Province to check on extractive industries and the impact on human rights.
