Livingstone gathering to examine how two billion litres of additional annual transport capacity could support regional fuel supply

LIVINGSTONE, ZAMBIA– Companhia do Pipeline Moçambique-Zimbabwe (CPMZ) will host the second Beira Corridor Forum in Livingstone on 27 October 2026, bringing regional industry leaders together to discuss how a major pipeline expansion could strengthen fuel supply to Zambia and neighbouring markets.

The Forum comes as CPMZ advances an expansion designed to increase the Beira–Feruka pipeline’s annual transport capacity by 67%, from three million to five million cubic metres. Following the groundbreaking on 2 September 2026, the project includes new pumping stations at Nhamatanda in Sofala Province and Messica in Manica Province and is expected to be completed by December 2027.

For Zambia and the wider region, the expansion raises a practical question: how can greater pipeline capacity translate into reliable, competitive fuel supply for mining, industry and other economic activity?

The Livingstone gathering will bring together energy, infrastructure and industry stakeholders to examine that question, with discussions covering the fuel requirements of the Copperbelt, regional security of supply and the infrastructure and partnerships needed to strengthen the corridor’s role in serving Southern Africa’s interior.

“Additional pipeline capacity is only part of the answer. The next task is to connect that capacity with the businesses and markets that need dependable fuel supply,” said Patrick Dias da Cunha, Board Member and Managing Director of CPMZ.

“Bringing the Forum to Zambia allows us to discuss the infrastructure, distribution arrangements and partnerships needed to make the Beira Corridor a stronger supply option for the region. Our ambition is to turn investment in the corridor into practical benefits for the markets it serves.”

The Beira Corridor connects the Port of Beira in Mozambique with Zimbabwe and provides a supply route for neighbouring markets. CPMZ’s long-term vision, developed together with the Government of Zimbabwe, is to strengthen the Beira–Harare route for transporting refined petroleum products, with Harare serving as a distribution hub for markets including Zambia, Malawi, Botswana and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Forum discussions will focus on three priorities: strengthening security of supply in an evolving environment; supporting growing fuel demand, including the future needs of the Copperbelt; and addressing bottlenecks that affect the reliability and competitiveness of the corridor.

Participants will also engage directly with key stakeholders of Beira Corridor infrastructure to discuss ongoing and planned investments, operational challenges and opportunities for closer coordination. The Livingstone event follows the inaugural Beira Corridor Forum, held in Dubai in 2025, and brings the regional dialogue closer to the markets central to the corridor’s next stage of development.
