In heavy industrial environments, every minute of downtime has a cost. Reliable power and signal transmission are essential to operational safety, productivity, and profitability.
For more than 45 years, Powermite South Africa has supplied robust and reliable cable solutions that help customers reduce risk, protect uptime, and keep demanding operations running with confidence. With extensive application experience in mining, crane systems, cable reeling systems, manufacturing, industrial automation, process control and energy installation industries, our cable solutions are engineered to assist in a wide range on industrial operations.
Tested to SANS 1520-1 – Mandatory Mining Spec – Necessary Safety Requirement
Trackless mining equipment operates under some of the harshest electrical service conditions found in any industry. Constant flexing, abrasion, impact, moisture and mechanical stress demand cable specifically designed and tested for these applications.
Powermite supplies Trackless Mining Cables that have been tested in line with the requirements of SANS 1520-1, providing confidence that they have been evaluated against recognised performance requirements for trailing and reeling applications in South African mining.
In the local market, we continue to find products that have not been tested to recognised standards and do not comply with the required performance criteria. They may appear similar, but their long-term electrical and mechanical performance cannot be verified. Selecting cable that has been tested to SANS 1520-1 provides several important advantages:
- Improved personnel safety.
- Reduced likelihood of unexpected cable failures.
- Protection of valuable mining plant and equipment.
- Reduced production downtime.
- Lower maintenance and replacement costs.
- Increased operational reliability in demanding environments.
- Confidence that the cable has been assessed against recognised industry requirements.
When cable failure occurs underground or on critical mining equipment, the consequences extend far beyond the cost of replacement. Production losses, equipment damage, emergency maintenance, safety incidents and operational disruption can all result from selecting inferior or non-conforming products.
For mine operators, contractors and engineering teams, specifying cable that has been tested to recognised standards is an investment in operational reliability, equipment protection and workforce safety.
Powermite also holds the necessary approvals for the full range of SANS 1520-1 mining cables—Types 41, 61A, 61B and 63—and SANS 1520-2 Types 66, 611, 622 and 633, in ECC and non-ECC variants.
Flexible Rubber Power Cables Built for Movement
Powermite’s flexible rubber power cables are engineered for dynamic industrial use where constant motion, bending, abrasion, and mechanical strain can place ordinary cables under severe pressure.
Durable and resilient, they support dependable power delivery in mining, manufacturing and heavy industry, including environments exposed to oil, moisture, impact and continuous handling.
Whether upgrading infrastructure or specifying a new installation, our team provides expert guidance and high-quality products tailored to your application.
Heavy Duty H07RN-F – Raising the Standard
Powermite recently introduced its new range of Heavy Duty H07RN-F flexible rubber cable, developed to meet the increasing electrical and mechanical demands of modern industry.
Unlike conventional H07RN-F cable, which is designed for a maximum conductor operating temperature of 60°C, Powermite’s Heavy Duty H07RN-F is manufactured for continuous operation at conductor temperatures of up to 90°C.
In addition, the cable is suitable for operation at up to 1000V in flexible trailing applications, owing to its advanced insulation system based on a 600/1000V rated compound. Combined with the higher conductor temperature, this increases current-carrying capacity per mm² versus conventional 60°C designs.
This higher temperature and voltage capability delivers measurable operational advantages, particularly in demanding applications where cable systems are exposed to heavy electrical loading, harsh environmental conditions and continuous mechanical movement.
Key benefits include:
- Higher current carrying capacity for increased power transmission.
- Improved resistance to thermal ageing, extending cable service life.
- Greater tolerance to overload conditions and peak operating temperatures.
- Reduced risk of insulation degradation and premature failure.
- Improved system reliability and reduced maintenance requirements.
- Increased operational confidence in demanding industrial environments.
Whether installed on mobile equipment, generators, crushers, conveyors, pumps or temporary power distribution systems, the enhanced thermal capability provides additional performance margin where operational continuity is essential.
