World Mining Congress 2026 is live in Lima — and the message is clear: trust + collaboration first

With a call to strengthen trust, drive innovation, and promote a shared vision to address the industry’s global challenges, World Mining Congress 2026 (WMC 2026) was officially inaugurated. One of the most important mining gatherings in the world, the event brings together business leaders, government authorities, academics, researchers, and industry professionals from various countries in Lima.

During the opening ceremony, Juan Carlos Ortiz, President of the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP), highlighted the historical significance of Peru once again hosting this international event after more than five decades. He noted that the Congress’ return to Peru reaffirms the institution’s commitment to promoting knowledge, innovation, and the development of increasingly responsible and sustainable mining.

He also emphasized that the event represents an opportunity to showcase to the world not only Peru’s mining potential, but also the quality of its professionals, the strength of its institutions, and the cultural richness of its regions.

“I am convinced that the coming days will strengthen cooperation among our countries, open new opportunities for collaboration, and continue to consolidate the World Mining Congress as the leading meeting point for the global mining industry,” Ortiz stated.

Mining for the Future

For his part, Abraham Chahuán, President of World Mining Congress 2026, noted that mining will play a decisive role in the new phase of global development driven by the energy transition, electrification, artificial intelligence, and the growth of emerging technologies that increasingly require strategic minerals.

Chahuán stated that the industry must respond to growing demand for metals through a combination of new investments, technological innovation, and stronger collaboration among all stakeholders.

“Collaboration is no longer just a value. It is a condition for the future of our industry. No company, no country, and no technology will solve this challenge on its own. The response must necessarily be collective,” he emphasized.

He also explained that these challenges are reflected in the theme of this edition of the Congress, Mining for the Future: Trust, Transformation and Technology, which places trust, transformation, and technology at the center as essential factors for ensuring that mining can meet the needs of the modern world in a sustainable and responsible manner.

World Mining Congress 2026 is taking place in Lima from June 24 to 26 and features an extensive program of conferences, panel discussions, and networking opportunities aimed at analyzing trends, sharing experiences, and building solutions for the future of global mining.
