SEEPEX unveils new pump design to boost uptime and precision in demanding industrial pumping applications

Cavity pump solutions provider, SEEPEX has introduced Smart Joint Access (SJA), a new inspection-friendly pump design aimed at industrial environments where uptime, safety and reliability are critical.

Launched in February 2026, the innovation is integrated into the company’s BN progressive cavity pump and is designed to simplify inspection while ensuring precise handling of demanding media.

At the core of Smart Joint Access is a compact design that provides direct visual access to both joints through a large opening in the suction housing.

This allows operators to carry out fast and efficient condition assessments without dismantling the pump, reducing downtime and improving operational confidence.

The design is particularly suited to applications involving shear-sensitive, abrasive or corrosive media, where reliability and product integrity are essential.

SEEPEX says the BN pump with SJA has been developed for space-constrained installations such as mobile manufacturing units, underground operations, and skid-mounted or stationary systems.

Its flexible integration options and low-energy operation support continuous performance in environments where interruptions can be costly.

Precision under pressure in rock blasting

Rock blasting remains a critical process in mining, tunnelling and large-scale construction projects, requiring consistent and accurate loading of explosive emulsions to achieve controlled fragmentation. Variations in pumping performance can result in uneven blasts, safety risks, rework or project delays.

According to SEEPEX, the BN pump equipped with Smart Joint Access is designed to meet these operational demands.

The ability to quickly inspect joints supports reliable emulsion transfer and precise dosing, making the pump well suited for blast hole loading and other chemical handling processes where accuracy is non-negotiable.

“Smart Joint Access enhances availability and operational efficiency for our customers,” said Magalie Levray, Global Business Development Manager Mining at SEEPEX. “Operators gain direct access to the joints through the large inspection opening, reduce downtime, and rely on consistent, precise pumping of viscous, shear-sensitive, and abrasive emulsions. In rock blasting, where every borehole matters, this reliability is essential.”

Inspection-friendly design for high availability

The Smart Joint Access concept is designed to streamline inspection routines and shorten maintenance cycles. The inspection opening in the suction housing enables direct visual checks of both joints, supporting faster decision-making and higher operational reliability in uptime-critical environments.

An equal-wall stator provides high-pressure capability within a compact footprint, allowing the pump to deliver strong performance without increasing installation space.

Depending on the application, the BN pump can be fitted with a compact hydraulic drive for truck-mounted mobile units or an electric drive for underground or stationary installations.

The low-displacement hydraulic option reduces oil requirements and contributes to a lower total cost of ownership.

SEEPEX’s progressive cavity pump technology ensures stable, controlled flow and protects product integrity, even when handling highly abrasive or shear-sensitive emulsions.

The pumps are available in a wide range of material configurations, including stainless steel or steel housings, chrome-plated rotors, and stators made from NBR, EPDM or FKM, ensuring compatibility with a broad spectrum of chemical emulsions.

To support rapid deployment and consistent performance across operations, SEEPEX offers framework agreements that enable fast delivery and reliable availability of BN pumps with Smart Joint Access.

These agreements support standardised designs and fleet-wide rollouts, helping operators minimise downtime during installation or replacement.

Broad industrial applications

Beyond rock blasting, BN pumps with Smart Joint Access are suitable for shotcrete, mine dewatering, tunnelling, civil works, dam construction and other industrial processes requiring precise and reliable handling of chemical or abrasive media.

In blasting operations in particular, routine visual inspection of joints combined with operational pressure testing is essential to maintain safety and performance.

By enabling quick assessment of joint integrity, Smart Joint Access supports continuous operation and improved maintenance efficiency, reinforcing SEEPEX’s focus on delivering pump solutions tailored for demanding industrial and mining environments.
