The second day of the DRC Mining Week 2025 in Lubumbashi continued with high energy and strategic dialogue, as key stakeholders from across the global mining sector gathered to map out the future of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s mining industry.
Focused on driving sustainable growth and unlocking strategic investment, the day featured the Value Chain Investment Forum, where industry leaders from institutions such as ECOBANK, KPMG, AFC Africa, and the DRC’s investment promotion agency ANAPI tackled key issues affecting the mining sector. Central to the discussion were strategies for attracting foreign direct investment, diversifying ownership beyond dominant players like China, and addressing regulatory and insurance barriers that hinder supply chain development.
The forum emphasized the need for more inclusive value chains, especially in the extraction and processing of critical minerals, positioning the DRC as an essential player in the global energy transition.
In addition, exclusive business events like the EU Networking Lunch created space for collaboration between European Union delegates and local stakeholders, with the aim of deepening mining cooperation. Meanwhile, the CEO Roundtable brought together top mining executives in a closed-door session to discuss long-term planning, innovation, and industry resilience.
A standout moment was the Focus Session: Building Trust, Boosting Trade, which addressed the DRC’s role as a responsible leader in the critical minerals sector. Experts from Glencore, Entreprise Générale du Cobalt (EGC), and trade representatives from the UK and Switzerland discussed how international assurance frameworks such as the Copper Mark can boost transparency, drive sustainable practices, and attract investment. The session underscored how certification and traceability can help elevate the DRC’s status as a world-class mining destination.
As anticipation builds for Day Three, the DRC Mining Week continues to be a key platform for shaping the future of mining in Africa’s most mineral-rich nation.
