Australian miner Clancy Exploration has announced plans to commence reconnaissance mapping and geochemical sampling programmes at its cobalt project in the Marrakesh area of Morocco.
The move comes less than a month since the company acquired three highly prospective exploration licenses adjacent to the Bou Azzer Cobalt mine, a government-owned enterprise that has been operating since 1929.
In a statement, the company said it has observed mineralised surface copper outcrops which are potentially indicative of significant underground cobalt mineralisation.
Clancy Exploration Executive Chairman David Lenigas said field-based exploration operations will be conducted at the three new licence areas to confirm preliminary surface observations of cobalt mineralisation.
“The initial round of fieldwork undertaken by the team has demonstrated the high degree of prospectivity and mineralisation potential of this exciting Moroccan Project Portfolio.
“This considerable exploration package, located right next door to the globally significant Bou Azzer Cobalt Mine, has the potential to unlock considerable shareholder value through the exploration programs we have underway,” Lenigas said.
As part of the first round exploration project, the company has collected a multitude of rock-chip samples and taken them for detailed geochemical analysis at the SGS laboratory in Spain. Laboratory tests results are expected by the end of May 2018.
